What Is Yours to Do?
Bringing Forth Planetary Mind
My hope is that readers of The Holy Universe not only find useful insights within the dialogues between the Seeker and the Sage, but that the book also gives them inspiration to find (or recommit to) their work in the world, the work to help bring forth Planetary Mind.
If you yourself are someone who is seeking guidance on finding the next step on your path, then you might find the section entitled “Getting into Action,” which is part of the Reader’s Guide to the Holy Universe, to be helpful. This section offers exercises to help people discover their role in bringing forth Planetary Mind. While it’s designed to be used within a group, an individual can also use this guide alone. Finding Your Tribe: A Short List of Good Organizations
. “These fellow seekers have already
. created millions of organizations
. working to transcend
. the story of Modern Mind.
. They are the myriad tiny seeds
. sprouting in the cracks within
. the story of Modern Mind.
. “It is a movement of movements,
. with no center, no one in charge,
. a diversity of people
. coming together across the globe.”
. —THE SAGE (p. 179)
Paul Hawken used the term “movement of movements” in a speech to the Bioneers conference not long after the turn of the century. Within these movements and organizations lies a rich source of places to find your “tribe” (which seems to be a word many of us are using now to describe “like-minded and like-hearted people”). I believe it’s vital to find these people.
As Hawken says, there are millions of organizations focused on issues of ecological sustainability, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment (you’ll see these and similar triads describing such organizations). I’ve listed seven of them here, most of which have ways to connect with local community groups of some sort.
- The Pachamama Alliance (www.pachamama.org). The mission of the Pachamama Alliance is “to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.” One of their initiatives in the “modern world” is the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, which was a primary catalyst for the creation of The Holy Universe. Click here to find Pachamama workshops and communities.
. - Generation Waking Up (www.genup.net). Generation Waking Up (a program of the Pachamama Alliance) “is a global campaign to ignite a generation of young people to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world.” They have plans to offer places for local groups to come together.
.\\\ - Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (www.bealocalist.org). “Within a generation, we envision a global system of human-scale, interconnected local economies that function in harmony with local ecosystems to meet the basic needs of all people, support just and democratic societies, and foster joyful community life.” Commonly known as “BALLE.” Click here to find a listing of BALLE businesses and organizations.
. - Transition US (www.transitionus.org). Transition US is a resource and catalyst for building resilient communities across the United States that are able to withstand severe energy, climate or economic shocks while creating a better quality of life in the process. Click here to find out where “Official Transition Initiatives” are.
. - Bioneers (www.bioneers.org). “Bioneers is a non-profit organization that highlights breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet. Since 1990, Bioneers has served as a fertile hub of social and scientific innovators with nature-inspired approaches to the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges. We connect people with solutions through the acclaimed annual National Bioneers Conference, the Beaming Bioneers Network of community gatherings, and with our award winning multi-media products.”
. - Institute of Noetic Sciences (www.noetic.org). The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research, education, and membership organization whose mission is supporting individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential. Click here to go directly to the “IONS Community Group Network” page.
- WECAN and Women’s gathering for Future Generations (www.futurefirst.org). Future First inspires actions that shift policies, laws and norms in the United States to support sustainability and environmental and economic justice for a world in which future generations can thrive. They support this shift in worldview and behavior by being a catalyst for individuals and organizations to work together, educating, connecting and motivating people to speak out and take action. Click here to go directly to the “WECAN and Women’s gathering for Future Generations Monthly Briefings” page.
. - Tar Sands Solutions Network (www.tarsandssolutions.org/). Tar Sands Solutions Network is a growing international network of organizations including First Nations, environmental groups, landowners, farmers, scientists, community leaders, academics, and grass roots groups located throughout North America and Europe. They represent a range of voices that are unanimously calling for a safe, clean energy economy that protects human and environmental rights. Their focus is stopping the expansion of the Canadian tar sands and its infrastructure of pipelines and tankers, growth that is out of control and happening without consistent care, oversight, or debate. Click here to go directly to the “Tar Sands Solutions Network Campaigns” page.
.
There are also “new thought” churches, such as the Centers for Spiritual Living, Unitarian Universalist and Unity churches, and liberal Christian churches, as well as action-oriented organizations, such as Move to Amend, 350.org, and the Climate Change Coalition—all of which are good places to connect with other like-minded folks.
Find your tribe. Do the work that makes your heart sing. Have fun doing it. And may our paths cross as we dance the creation of Planetary Mind.
